Will you curate evil or will you let it devour the land?

Tyranny, the dark isometric RPG from Pillars of Eternity creators Obsidian, is looming on the horizon. It's the story of how Kyros, the evil overlord, has conquered the world and is now enforcing her will upon the people. With your help!
In the wake of the recently completed Gamescom, more details on how Tyranny works have surfaced and they are bound to make all aspiring enforcers of evil anxious for the game, coming day-one to GOG.com.

When comparing the game to Pillars of Eternity, Brian Heins, game director of Tyranny, said that this time around they are "focusing on a smaller game with a higher level of reactivity to player choices". He expects people to need around 25 hours for a full playthrough, but promises that going through the game a second (or even third) time is going to be a fundamentally different experience, should players choose to mix up their choices.

Tyranny is going to include over 800.000 words (across all story branches), so if you want to practise your reading, go ahead and absorb the information Brian Heins shared in his interview with GameBanshee.

Or, if you are more the audiovisual type, listen to him talking to the Rocket Beans guys below:

Tyranny (For You)

Seriously though, it looks pretty enough. I've got a load of Diablo-em-ups in my backlog though, so can you tell me in twenty words or less why I'd want to move this one to the front of the queue? Honest question.

Pshaw! Any Spiderweb game is ten times better than any of modern obsidian-esque "absolutely new fantasy setting-blah-blah-blah"-gewgaw.

Does GOG really need to make so much advertising campaigns like that...

I remember you were once honest... or were you?

OK, I'll just shut up and pass the Doritos...

It's almost as if they were in this business to make money by selling games...

Sounds like Black Company: The Video Game. I have no problem with this.

Can you please explain .

Boilpoint: Obsidian?
Great for scalpels, and very pretty in its snowflake form. But the word alone doesn't sell me on the compelling-ness of the game.
I'm still having trouble to imagine how such a concept can work out and be fun to the average player, and without the cheap resort of letting you play the good guy in disguise, a "benevolent tyrant", so to speak. But consider me curious at least. In any case, Obsidian + shorter gamelength sounds like a good idea to me. ;)
I dunno, Spiderweb games have really good writing, but the class balance is horrible and combat is usually really boring. Exploration however, is nice. But unless you really love reading, you can get tired of Spiderweb games pretty fast. So much text and no voice overs are just killing me and there just isn't enough for me to finish any Spiderweb games except Avernum: Escape From The Pit (the first game I played) and Nethergate: Resurrection.

Pillars of Eternity might not be as good in terms of writing, but the gameplay and exploration kept me interested. The class system is a bit too complex, but at least there were good guides I could just follow. And it has mostly voice overs for the most important dialogues that saved me from reading too much.

Tyranny does interest me, but I can't decide whether I want to be evil or not in it.

Who cares GOG, release the game or STFU

Actually, I didn't like this mix of reading and listening in PoE that much. There were often passages of text with spoken dialogue in its midst (like He stares at his feet. "I'm sorry." You get the feeling he isn't entirely honest with you. or some such - much longer, of course) and only the dialogue would be read, so after listening - or at the same time - you'd still have to read the sentences that were not read aloud. I liked it when the banter of party members was voiced, so that you could listen to them while doing something else, but in the actual dialogues when all you can do is listen, the voiceovers make it feel kind of slow, especially since the full text is already displayed for reading before it's spoken ...

My understanding is that you play an underling enforcing the tyrant's will. Throughout your journey you might witness somethings that causes you to switch your allegiance therefore becoming a "good guy/girl". Just a theory though.
Interesting preview, I thought the whole thing might be in German for a bit because of the start.
